How to Get to Porto Timoni

There are two main ways to get to the famous twin beach, each offering a completely different experience. You can either undertake the classic hike down from Afionas village or arrive by sea for a more relaxed approach.

Option 1: The Hike from Afionas (The Classic Adventure)

This is the most popular and rewarding way to visit. The journey itself is a huge part of the adventure, offering breathtaking views as you descend.

The Trail: What to Expect

• Duration & Distance: The trail is approximately 1.1 km each way. Expect the walk down to take 30-40 minutes at a steady pace. The return journey is all uphill and can take 45-60 minutes, especially in the heat.
• Terrain: The path is a mix of dirt track and uneven, rocky stones. It is not paved. While not technically difficult, it requires concentration and good balance.
• Scenery: The trail winds through ancient olive groves and fragrant wild herbs, with the sea peeking through the foliage before opening up to the spectacular final reveal of the twin beach.

Parking in Afionas (The First Challenge)

Parking is limited and can be the most stressful part of the trip in July and August. Our #1 Tip: Arrive Early! Aim to be parked before 10 AM in peak season.

• Paid Car Parks: There are two main paid car parks. The one at the entrance to the village (approx. €5/day) is a longer walk to the trailhead but often has more space. The central car park (approx. €10/day) is right at the start of the path but is smaller and fills up very fast.
• Important Note: Never take a hire car “off-road” on unmarked tracks, as this will invalidate your insurance. Stick to the official car parks.

Getting There by Bus

Yes, you can reach the area by public transport, but it requires planning and a good amount of extra walking. This is a great option for budget-conscious travelers without a car.

• The Route: You will need to take the Green Bus (KTEL) service that goes to Agios Georgios Pagon (typically the A7 route).
• The Walk: From the bus stop in Agios Georgios, you will have an approximately 2 km uphill walk (30-40 mins) to reach the start of the Porto Timoni trail in Afionas village.
• Check Timetables: Bus services can be infrequent. Always check the official Green Buses website for the latest timetable before you go, and make sure you know the time of the last bus back.

Option 2: Arriving by Sea (The Relaxing Way)

If the hike sounds too strenuous, you can experience the beauty of Porto Timoni from the water. This is an excellent option for families or those with mobility concerns.

• Water Taxis & Pedalos: During the summer, water taxis and pedalos are available for hire from the nearby beach of Agios Georgios Pagon. The taxis will drop you off and agree on a time to pick you up later.
• Private Boat Hire: The ultimate way to visit. Renting a small motorboat for the day allows you to visit Porto Timoni and then continue on to explore other nearby sea caves and hidden coves.

Porto Timoni is a completely wild and natural beach. Its beauty lies in its unspoiled state, which means you must come fully prepared.

The Essential Packing List:

• ✅ Sturdy Shoes: Trainers or good hiking sandals are non-negotiable for the walk.
• ✅ Plenty of Water: There is nowhere to buy drinks. Bring more than you think you’ll need.
• ✅ Food & Snacks: Pack a picnic to keep you going.
