In-Depth Guide & Details

Getting There & The Boat Trip

The boat trips depart from the main beaches of Paleokastritsa, primarily Agios Spyridon Beach.

  • By Car & Parking: Driving to Paleokastritsa from Corfu Town takes about 40 minutes. Be warned: parking here is notoriously difficult, especially in high season. There is a main car park at the bottom which fills up very early, and limited roadside parking. Arriving early (before 10 am) or taking the bus is strongly advised.
  • By Bus: This is the best and most stress-free option. The A9 Green Bus service runs frequently from the main KTEL bus station in Corfu Town directly to Paleokastritsa, dropping you right at the main beach where the boat trips start.
  • Tickets: You don’t need to pre-book. Simply head to the main jetty at Agios Spyridon beach where you will find the yellow taxi boats. Tickets for the shared tour are sold at a fixed price per person from a kiosk on the jetty. The tours run constantly all day.
  • Private Hire: You can also hire a small boat with a skipper for a private tour, which allows you to customize your trip and spend more time at your favourite spots.

What You’ll See: Key Caves & Sights

The standard tour visits several famous grottoes.

  • Nausicaa’s Cave: Named after the mythical Phaeacian princess who is said to have found Odysseus on the shores of Paleokastritsa.
  • St. Nicholas Cave: A large grotto that offers beautiful photo opportunities looking back out to the open sea from within the cave.
  • The Blue Eye Cave: The highlight for many. The boat enters a dark cave where a small patch of water glows with an incredibly intense, almost phosphorescent blue light, created by a unique underwater rock formation.
  • Coastal Views: The trip also provides stunning views of the dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and the Monastery of Paleokastritsa perched high on the headland.
