The Achilleion Palace is one of the most famous and opulent landmarks in Corfu. Built as a summer refuge for the melancholic Empress Elisabeth ‘Sisi’ of Austria-Hungary, this magnificent neoclassical palace is a monument to her fascination with Greek mythology, particularly the hero Achilles. After her death, it was owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. A visit today is a journey into a world of imperial grandeur, with lavishly decorated rooms, breathtaking frescoes, and magnificent terraced gardens that boast stunning sea views and world-renowned statues.

The palace is a major tourist attraction located in the village of Gastouri, about 10km south of Corfu Town.
The palace and its grounds are filled with incredible art and history. Please note, that due to ongoing renovation work, the inside of the palace is currently closed, although the gardens remain open.
Plan for at least 1.5 to 2 hours. This will give you enough time to see the palace interiors (currently closed due to renovations), explore the multi-level gardens thoroughly, and enjoy the views without rushing.
The palace itself is generally accessible. However, the famous gardens are built on steep terraces with many stairs, which can be very challenging for those with mobility impairments.
Whilst a tour is a good way to visit. Yes, absolutely. It is very easy to visit independently using the No. 10 Blue Bus from Corfu Town, which drops you right at the entrance.
