Angelokastro, or the ‘Castle of Angels’, is arguably the most impressive and important Byzantine castle in the Ionian Islands. Perched dramatically on a sheer, 305-meter-high cliff on the northwest coast, it served as the capital of Corfu during periods of great danger. Its strategic position meant it was never conquered, providing refuge for the local population. For visitors today, it offers a challenging but hugely rewarding climb into history, culminating in some of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring panoramic views in all of Greece.

Older children who enjoy a climb will love the adventure. However, due to the steep climb and unfenced clifftops at the summit, it is not recommended for toddlers or very young children.
