Getting There & Location

The castle is located between the villages of Agios Matheos and Gardiki, very close to the famous Lake Korission.

  • By Car & Parking: A car or scooter is essential for visiting Gardiki Castle. It is located just off the main road, and there is ample, easy parking along the quiet roadside right next to the entrance. It’s approximately a 45-minute drive from Corfu Town.
  • By Bus: This is not a practical option. The nearest Green Bus stops are in the surrounding villages, which would require a very long walk to reach the castle. We do not recommend attempting to visit by bus.

Tickets & Access
  • Tickets: Entry to Gardiki Castle is completely free of charge. It is an open archaeological site with no gates or staff.
  • The Walk: Access is very easy. You can walk directly from your car into the castle grounds through the main gateway on a flat path.

The main appeal of Gardiki is its untouched, authentic state.

  • The Octagonal Walls: The most impressive feature. Walk the perimeter and admire the eight towers and the surprisingly intact curtain walls that define its unique shape.
  • The Olive Grove Interior: The inside of the fortress is a peaceful grove of ancient olive trees, making it a wonderful place for a quiet stroll.
  • Ancient Heritage: The location is historically significant, with evidence of Palaeolithic settlement found in the nearby Grava Gardikiou cave, proving this area has been inhabited for thousands of years.
