An Overview of Almyros Beach

Almyros Beach is a vast, serene expanse of golden sand on Corfu’s north coast. As the quieter eastern extension of Acharavi beach, it offers a more relaxed and natural atmosphere. Known for its incredibly shallow, calm waters and stunning views towards the Albanian mountains, Almyros is the perfect escape for families with young children and anyone seeking peace and quiet. It beautifully balances unspoiled nature with just enough amenities for a comfortable day by the sea, and sits right next to the protected Antinioti Lagoon.

A Practical Guide to Almyros Beach

Location & Getting There

Almyros Beach is situated on the northernmost tip of Corfu, approximately 40 km from Corfu Town and the airport. It seamlessly blends into the resort of Acharavi to the west, offering easy access to more shops and restaurants. The drive from Corfu Town takes about an hour, leading you to this peaceful coastal haven.

  • Parking: Street parking is generally easy and free and you can find ample space along the quiet road that runs behind the beach.
  • Accessibility: The beach is flat and very easy to access directly from the road and parking spots.
  • Transport: The A3 bus route from Corfu Town stops in Acharavi, from where Almyros is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk. Hiring a car is the most convenient way to reach the beach and explore the scenic north.

Beach & Water Characteristics

  • The defining feature of Almyros is its exceptionally shallow water. You can walk out for 50 metres or more before it becomes deep, making it one of the safest beaches on Corfu for toddlers and young children.
  • The sea is typically very calm, with a soft, sandy seabed that’s perfect for paddling and playing.
  • While it’s a very safe beach, lifeguard presence is limited to specific areas in front of larger hotels during the high season.
  • The 🟦 symbol indicates this beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for its excellent water quality and safety.

Amenities

Almyros is semi-organised, offering the best of both worlds. You’ll find sections with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, usually in front of the excellent beachfront tavernas. There are also long, undeveloped stretches where you can lay your towel for free. While there are fewer public facilities than in major resorts, the nearby tavernas offer restrooms and refreshments. For a wider range of shops, bars, and activities, the main strip of Acharavi is just a short walk or drive away.

  • Don’t miss a walk towards the Antinioti Lagoon at the eastern end of the beach for its rich birdlife.
