Ampelaki Beach

Ampelaki Beach

Overview

Ampelaki Beach is a quiet coastal gem tucked beside the more famous Paleokastritsa beaches — a small, pebbly cove with crystal-clear waters and a peaceful, local feel. It’s perfect for those who want to escape the crowds and enjoy a swim in calm, turquoise waters surrounded by rugged cliffs and lush greenery. Whether you’re after a tranquil sunbathing spot or a refreshing dip, Ampelaki offers a serene slice of Corfu’s natural beauty with amenities within walking distance.

Location

Ampelaki Beach is located on Corfu’s west coast, just a short walk from the heart of Paleokastritsa. It’s about 25 km northwest of Corfu Town and the airport, with a drive time of around 35 minutes. The beach faces northwest, offering views of the open Ionian Sea and dramatic coastal rock formations.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The water at Ampelaki is exceptionally clear but deepens fairly quickly, making it ideal for confident swimmers and snorkellers.
  • The seabed is mostly rocky, so water shoes are recommended.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty, so caution is advised when swimming, especially with children or during windy conditions.

Amenities

Ampelaki Beach is lightly developed but has just enough to make your visit comfortable. A few sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire, and there’s a nearby taverna offering traditional Greek dishes and cold drinks. There are no public toilets or showers directly on the beach, but facilities can be found in the nearby Paleokastritsa area. Boat rentals and water taxis are also available nearby for those looking to explore hidden coves.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking: There is a large car park that services the area for €5 per day, which is just a short walk from the beach.
  • Accessibility: The beach is accessible via a short walk from the main road, but the path can be uneven.
  • Transport: The A9 bus route services Paleokastritsa from Corfu Town. From the main bus stop, Ampelaki beach is just a few minutes on foot. Car rental is also a convenient option.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • Pebbly Shoreline: Water shoes are helpful for navigating the rocky seabed.
  • Limited Shade: Bring your own umbrella or arrive early to claim one of the few available.
  • Quiet Atmosphere: This is a peaceful beach — ideal for relaxing, not for parties or loud music.
  • Nearby Attractions: The Monastery of Paleokastritsa and other nearby beaches are within walking distance, making it easy to explore the area.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Couples, solo travellers, and snorkelling enthusiasts looking for a quiet, scenic beach with clear waters.
  • Best time to go: May, June, or September for a peaceful experience; July and August for warmer water and livelier surroundings.
  • Crowds: Generally quiet, though it can get busier in peak season due to its proximity to Paleokastritsa.
  • Extra perks: Excellent snorkelling, beautiful views, and a traditional taverna just steps from the shore.
