An Overview of Anemomylos Beach

Anemomylos is Corfu’s most charming urban swimming spot. Located in the beautiful Garitsa Bay, this spot is less about a full day out with an umbrella and more about the unique experience of taking a refreshing dip with one of the island’s most iconic views. Framed by the historic Anemomylos windmill and looking directly out at the majestic Old Fortress, it’s a favourite for locals and visitors staying in town. It offers a perfect blend of city life and seaside relaxation.

A Practical Guide to Anemomylos Beach

Location & Getting There

Anemomylos Beach is situated directly in Corfu Town, along the Garitsa Bay promenade. It’s just a 15-20 minute scenic walk from the central Liston and Spianada Square.

  • Parking: This is the main challenge. There is free street parking all along Garitsa Bay, but it fills up very quickly.
  • Accessibility: The beach is perfectly flat and accessible directly from the main promenade, making it ideal for everyone.
  • Transport: This is its biggest strength. It’s easily reachable on foot from anywhere in Corfu Town. Local blue buses also run frequently along the bay. No need for a rental car if you are staying in town.

Beach & Water Characteristics

  • The water in the bay is generally very calm and sheltered.
  • It has a shallow entry but deepens gradually, making it suitable for a proper swim.
  • The beach itself is a narrow strip of sand and fine shingle.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty; it’s a public city beach where swimming is at your own risk.

Amenities

Direct amenities on the tiny beach are non-existent, which is part of its simple charm. However, its true amenity is its location. The entire Garitsa Bay promenade is lined with cafes, bars, and excellent restaurants. You can go for a swim and then sit down for a coffee or meal moments later. The famous windmill itself is a prime spot for photos, and public benches along the waterfront provide a place to relax.

Is Anemomylos Beach Right For You?

You’ll Love Anemomylos Beach If…

  • You are a resident of Corfu Town, a tourist staying locally, or anyone wanting a quick swim with an iconic view.
  • You want to join the locals as they cool off after work.
  • You appreciate immediate access to the cafes and restaurants of Garitsa Bay.

Things to Keep in Mind…

  • Urban Swim Spot: Think of this as a place for a refreshing dip, not a full-day beach expedition.
  • It’s Small: The strip of sand is narrow and can get crowded with locals, especially in the late afternoon.
  • The View is Everything: The main reason to swim here is for the unparalleled view of the Old Fortress across the bay.
  • No Facilities: There are no changing rooms, showers, or sunbeds for hire on the beach itself.
