Cape Drastis is more than just a view; it is one of the most alien and beautiful landscapes in the Ionian. Located near the traditional village of Peroulades, this geological wonder features imposing white sedimentary cliffs that have been sculpted by the wind and waves into jagged sea stacks.

While it isn’t a traditional sandy beach, it offers a wild beauty that is unmatched. Whether you are hiking down for the iconic drone-style photo or taking a boat to smear the mineral-rich clay on your skin in the turquoise waters below, Cape Drastis is an unmissable adventure.

Essential Visitor Information

The Road & Parking: What to Expect

This is the most common question we get! The road to Cape Drastis starts paved near Peroulades but turns into a steep, dusty, rutted dirt track for the final kilometer.

  • Small Rental Cars: Do NOT drive down the dirt track. You risk damaging the undercarriage and invalidating insurance. Park at the top where the tarmac ends.
  • Quads/ATVs: Can handle the track easily.
  • The Walk: From the top parking area, it is a 10-15 minute walk downhill to the main viewpoint. It is steep but manageable for most fitness levels.

Can I Swim & Use the Clay?

Swimming Tips

  • Boat Only: The best swimming spots are the secluded coves accessible only by sea.
  • Natural Spa: The cliffs are made of clay. Locals and tourists wet the clay and rub it on their skin for a natural spa treatment!
  • Water Shoes: If you find a spot to step ashore, the rocks can be sharp.

Warnings

  • Currents: The north-west tip can have strong currents. Be careful if swimming far from your boat.
  • No Shade: The cliffs provide shade at certain times, but there are no umbrellas or trees.
Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cape Drastis free to visit?

Yes, accessing the viewpoint and the area is completely free.

Are there toilets or food?

There are no facilities at Cape Drastis itself. The nearest tavernas and minimarkets are in Peroulades village (approx. 20 min walk back up). Bring water!

Is it good for sunset?

It is spectacular. However, for the classic “sunset over the sea” view, the nearby Loggas Beach (7 mins drive) offers a more direct westerly view, whereas Drastis faces North-West.

Jaw-dropping views!

Piictures dont do this place justice. The water is insane blue against the white cliffs. It’s a bit of a dusty walk down so don’t wear your best white shoes lol but it is 100% worth it. We just stood there for ages watching the little boats go between the cliffs – Totally unreal and totally worth it in our opinion.

One downside – Parking isn’t great, it is either along the road leading up or on a tiny little dirt area which we personally didn’t think was worth the risk.
