Chalikounas Beach is a wild beauty on Corfu’s southwest coast - a golden ribbon of sand stretching for kilometres between the Ionian Sea and the tranquil waters of Lake Korission. It’s a haven for nature lovers, windsurfers, and anyone seeking a more untouched, windswept slice of paradise. With its wide-open spaces, gentle dunes, and salty breeze, Chalikounas offers a refreshing contrast to Corfu’s more developed beaches.

No, swimming in Lake Korission is not recommended. The lake is a protected nature reserve, and the water is brackish and not suitable for swimming. The beautiful Ionian Sea is just metres away on the other side of the sand dunes!
While the beach is sandy and shallow, the west coast can often have waves, which may not be ideal for very small children. The lack of facilities can also be a challenge. Beaches like Agios Gordios or Agios Georgios South are often better choices for families.
A 4x4 is not essential, and many people visit in regular rental cars. However, the access road is an unpaved dirt track, so you must drive slowly and carefully, especially after any rain.
