Chomi (Paradise Beach)

Chomi (Paradise Beach)

Overview

Chomi, universally known as Paradise Beach, is a place of breathtaking, wild beauty, accessible only by sea. Towering vertical white cliffs plunge into the most intensely turquoise water imaginable, creating one of Corfu’s most dramatic and unforgettable landscapes. This is not a beach for amenities or convenience; it is an adventure destination for those who want to witness raw, natural splendour and swim in a truly spectacular setting.

Location

Paradise Beach is located on the rugged west coast, just south of the popular resort of Paleokastritsa and near the village of Liapades. It is tucked away at the base of enormous cliffs, completely cut off from land access. The only way to set foot on its shores is by an organised tour, a boat taxi, or renting your own boat.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The water is exceptionally clear, perfect for swimming and snorkelling around the rock formations.
  • It deepens fairly quickly from the shore, offering deep, refreshing water for a swim.
  • There are no lifeguards. You swim at your own risk.
  • Important Safety Note: Do not sit directly beneath the cliffs, as there is a small but real risk of rockfall. Choose a spot further away from the cliff base.

Amenities

This beach is entirely devoid of amenities to preserve its natural state. In high season, a small cantina boat sometimes anchors offshore, selling cold drinks, snacks, and renting a very limited number of sunbeds. However, you should not rely on this. Visitors must be fully self-sufficient and bring their own food, water, sun cream, and umbrellas.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking & Transport: There is no land access. You cannot drive, walk, or get a bus to this beach.
  • Boat Access Only: The only way to get here is by boat. You can hire a boat taxi from the main ports in Paleokastritsa, from Gefyra beach in Liapades, or rent a small boat yourself to explore the coastline at your own pace.
  • Accessibility: Once off the boat, the beach is a mix of sand and small pebbles and is flat.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • Boat Is Essential: We cannot stress this enough – you must arrange boat transport to get there.
  • Arrange Your Return: When taking a boat taxi, agree on a firm pickup time with your captain before they leave.
  • Be Fully Prepared: Pack everything you will need for the day – water is essential.
  • Limited Shade: The cliffs provide shade in the morning or late afternoon depending on the time of year, but it’s very exposed at midday.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Adventurers, photographers, couples, and anyone looking for a “wow” factor. Not suitable for families with very young children due to the access and lack of facilities.
  • Best time to go: Early morning (before 11 am) to have the beach almost to yourself before the larger tour boats arrive.
  • Crowds: Can get busy with tour boats and private rentals between 12 pm and 4 pm in high season.
  • Extra perks: Unbeatable, dramatic scenery that feels otherworldly. The sense of adventure and discovery is unmatched.
