Ermones Beach

Ermones Beach

Overview

Ermones Beach is a striking blend of rugged beauty and resort comfort — a pebbly bay framed by steep green hills and dramatic cliffs on Corfu’s west coast. It’s a beach that feels both wild and welcoming, perfect for those who want to relax in nature without giving up modern comforts. Whether you’re here to swim, snorkel, or to simply unwind with a view, Ermones offers a peaceful yet scenic escape.

Location

Ermones Beach is located about 18 km west of Corfu Town and the airport. Facing west, it’s a fantastic spot for sunset lovers and those who enjoy a more secluded coastal setting. The drive from Corfu Town takes around 30 minutes, passing through olive groves and rolling hills before descending into the bay.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The water at Ermones deepens quickly, making it ideal for confident swimmers.
  • The seabed is a mix of pebbles and rocks, and the water is usually clear, offering good conditions for snorkelling.
  • While the beach is generally calm, waves can pick up on windier days.
  • Lifeguards may be present during the high season, but it’s always wise to swim with caution.

Amenities

Ermones Beach is well-equipped for a comfortable visit. There are organized sections with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, and a couple of tavernas nearby where toilets are available. The beach itself backs onto a hotel complex and water sports like kayaking and pedal boats are sometimes available. Boat trips can often be arranged from the area.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking: There’s a small parking area near the beach but it is very limited and can fill up quickly in summer. Arriving early is recommended.
  • Accessibility: The beach is accessible via a sloping path or steps from the road above. It’s manageable for most, but may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
  • Transport: The B16 bus route from Corfu Town run to Ermones, but hiring a car is a more convenient way to reach Ermones directly.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • Pebbly Terrain: Water shoes are recommended for comfort when entering the sea.
  • Limited Shade: Bring an umbrella or rent one on-site to stay cool during the hottest hours.
  • Quiet Vibe: While there are some resort facilities, the beach itself remains peaceful and low-key.
  • Sunset Views: The west-facing location makes this a great spot to end the day with a golden horizon.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Couples, solo travellers, and nature lovers looking for a scenic beach with a tranquil atmosphere.
  • Best time to go: May, June, or September for fewer crowds and pleasant weather; July and August for warmer seas and more activity.
  • Crowds: Generally quiet, though it can get busier in peak season due to nearby resorts.
  • Extra perks: Stunning cliffside views, clear waters for snorkelling, and a peaceful setting just a short drive from Corfu Town.
