Giali Beach

Giali Beach

Overview

Giali Beach is one of Corfu’s most secluded treasures — a hidden cove tucked beneath towering cliffs on the island’s wild west coast. With its golden sand, turquoise waters, and untouched surroundings, it’s a dream for nature lovers and those seeking total tranquillity. Whether you arrive by boat or brave the rugged hike, Giali rewards you with a peaceful, postcard-perfect escape far from the crowds.

  • TO NOTE – The hike to Giali beach is dangerous, steep, and uneven. There are now no ropes to assist with the descent and ascent of the cliff face. Beach goers do so at their own risk!

Location

Giali Beach (also spelled Yali or Gyali) is located near the village of Giannades on Corfu’s western coastline, about 20 km from Corfu Town. Facing southwest, it offers dramatic views of the Ionian Sea and unforgettable sunsets. The beach is nestled at the base of steep cliffs, making it feel completely cut off from the outside world. The drive from Corfu Town takes approximately 35 minutes.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The sea at Giali is crystal clear and deepens fairly quickly, making it ideal for confident swimmers and snorkellers.
  • The seabed is a mix of sand, pebbles, and occasional rocks.
  • There are no lifeguards or safety infrastructure, so caution is essential — especially if you’re swimming alone or visiting with children.

Amenities

Giali Beach is completely unorganized — no sunbeds, umbrellas, tavernas, or facilities. It’s a raw, natural beach, so you’ll need to bring everything with you: water, snacks, sun protection, and anything else you might need for the day. This untouched quality is part of its charm, offering a true back-to-nature experience.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking: If you’re hiking, you can park near the Chapel of Prophet Elias near to Giannades. From there, a steep, rocky and uneven trail leads down to the beach.
  • Accessibility: This beach is not easily accessible – The hike is challenging and not suitable for those with mobility issues other other serious health conditions. Sturdy shoes are essential. Alternatively, the safest and easiest way to reach Giali is by boat.
  • Transport: There’s no public transport directly to the beach so car hire is the only option to arrive by foot. You can take a boat taxi from nearby beaches like Ermones or Paleokastritsa, or rent a boat for the day to explore the coastline at your own pace.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • No Facilities: Bring all your essentials — there is nothing but paradise waters at this beach.
  • Dangerous access by foot: The hike is beautiful but demanding. Only attempt it if you’re confident on uneven terrain, and be sure to wear sensible shoes. Pay attention to the warning signs!
  • Secluded Setting: You may have the beach almost entirely to yourself, especially outside of peak hours.
  • Perfect for Snorkelling: The clear water and rocky surroundings make it a great spot to explore underwater.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Adventurous travellers, couples, and nature lovers looking for a remote, peaceful beach.
  • Best time to go: Early morning or late afternoon for cooler temperatures and golden light.
  • Crowds: Rarely busy, even in high season — a true hidden gem.
  • Extra perks: Breathtaking views from the cliffs above, pristine waters, and a sense of total escape.
