Overview: Discovering Gialos Beach

Gialos Beach is one of the North Coast’s best-kept secrets. While thousands of visitors flock to the nearby Sidari and Acharavi, Gialos remains a sanctuary of calm. Tucked beneath the traditional village of Karousades, this long stretch of sand and pebble is framed by towering, weathered cliffs that glow golden at sunset. It offers a “wild” Corfiot experience, with crystal-clear waters and a sense of isolation that is hard to find in the busier summer months.

How to Get to Gialos Beach

Drive Yourself

A car is highly recommended. The road down from Karousades is steep and narrow, but it leads directly to a small parking area by the beach.

By Bus

Take the A11 Sidari Bus or A9 Acharavi Bus to Karousades. From the village, it is a roughly 20-30 minute walk downhill to the beach.

Stress-Free Transfer

Avoid the narrow, steep roads by booking a private transfer. A driver can drop you directly at the beach entrance and collect you later.

In-Depth Guide & Details

Location & Getting to the Beach

Gialos Beach is located in the Karousades region, about 35km from Corfu Town. The drive takes roughly 50-60 minutes.

  • Parking: There is a small, unpaved parking area near the beach taverna. It is rarely full, even in high season.
  • Accessibility: The road down is steep, but the beach area itself is flat once you arrive.

Key Attractions & Features
  • Spectacular Clay Cliffs: The beach is backed by high cliffs that are constantly being shaped by the wind and sea, creating a dramatic, wild landscape.
  • Sunset Views: Being northwest-facing, Gialos is an incredible spot to watch the sun sink into the Ionian Sea, often with the Diapontia islands visible on the horizon.
  • Quiet Waters: On calm days, the water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. On windy days, it can get some impressive (but safe) waves.
  • Privacy: Even in the middle of August, you can often find sections of the beach all to yourself.
Amenities & What to Expect
Gialos is a “low-key” beach. There is usually one traditional taverna open during the summer months serving local Corfiot dishes and cold drinks but the majority of the beach is undeveloped. There are no water sports or loud beach bars here – it is a place for nature lovers.
