An Overview of Kaminaki Beach

Kaminaki Beach is the quintessential “hidden” gem of Corfu’s northeast coast. This beautiful, tiny pebble cove is a peaceful escape from the larger resorts, offering a taste of the traditional, unspoiled Corfu that captivated the Durrells. Surrounded by olive-clad hillsides, the bay is known for its exceptionally clear, calm turquoise water, making it a paradise for swimmers and snorkellers. With just two excellent tavernas on the shore and the gentle lapping of waves, Kaminaki is a sanctuary of tranquillity.

A Practical Guide to Kaminaki Beach

Location & Getting There

Kaminaki is nestled on the prestigious northeast coastline, approximately 25 km north of Corfu Town. The drive from Corfu Town takes around 45 minutes.

  • Parking: This is the main challenge. There is limited street parking near to the water which fills up quick. Do not attempt to park on the steep road down.
  • Accessibility: The drive is not for the faint-hearted. It’s steep, narrow, and has several hairpin bends. The beach itself is flat.
  • Transport: A small rental car is best for navigating the road. Alternatively, arriving by water taxi or a hired boat is a popular and stress-free option. The A5 bus route passes by and stops on the main road but the walk down is a very long and steep.

Beach & Water Characteristics

  • The beach is composed of smooth white pebbles, and the seabed shelves quite quickly into stunningly clear, deep water.
  • The bay is very sheltered, meaning the water is almost always flat and calm, ideal for confident swimmers.
  • It’s one of the best spots on the coast for snorkelling, with abundant marine life around the rocks.
  • Water shoes are recommended for comfort on the pebbles. There are no lifeguards.

Amenities

Amenities are simple and high-quality. The two beachfront tavernas provide sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, as well as fantastic food and drink. One of the beach’s main attractions is the boat hire service, allowing you to explore the string of beautiful, often inaccessible coves along this famous coastline at your own pace.

Things to Keep in Mind…

  • The Drive: Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding drive. Go slow and be ready to give way.
  • Arrive Early for Parking: If driving, it is advised you arrive before 10 am in high season to get a parking spot.
  • Pebble Beach: Bring water shoes.
  • Hire a Boat: This is the best way to experience the magic of the northeast coast, and Kaminaki is the perfect starting point.
