In-Depth Guide & Details

Location & Getting Around Kanoni

Kanoni is a peninsula just south of Corfu Town, a mere 4 km from the centre. The drive takes around 10-15 minutes.

  • Parking: There is a large parking area near the viewpoint, but it gets busy.
  • Accessibility: The upper viewing areas and the causeway below are flat and easily accessible.

Key Attractions & Features
  • Plane Spotting on the Causeway: The main event! Stand on the causeway and experience the incredible thrill of passenger jets landing just metres above you.
  • Vlacherna Monastery & Mouse Island: This is the location of Corfu's most iconic view, with the picturesque monastery connected by a jetty and Mouse Island just behind it.
  • Cliff-Top Cafes: Enjoy a coffee or a drink from one of the cafes at the top of the hill for the classic panoramic photograph.
  • Swimming: Join the locals for a swim off the concrete platforms on the causeway - a truly unique swimming spot.
Amenities & What to Expect
The primary amenities are the famous cafés perched on the cliff. Down by the water, the causeway is the main feature. Small boats offer trips across to visit Mouse Island for a small fee. You will not find sunbeds or umbrellas; this is an experience spot, not a lounging beach. The area has been awarded a Blue Flag for water quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to be on the causeway when planes land?

Yes, it is perfectly safe. The causeway is a designated public walkway, and this has been a world-famous plane-spotting location for decades.

Can you swim at Kanoni?

Yes, many people swim from the platforms and rocks along the side of the causeway. It's a unique experience, but as there's no beach entry, it's best for confident swimmers.

Is it better to see the view from the top cafes or the bottom causeway?

Both offer different experiences! The top cafes give you the classic, wide panoramic "postcard" view. The bottom causeway gives you the thrilling, up-close experience of the planes landing. It's best to do both if you have time.
