Myrtiotissa Beach

Myrtiotissa Beach

Overview

Myrtiotissa Beach is one of Corfu’s hidden gems. It is a small, secluded sandy stretch with perfectly clear waters. The beach is also surrounded by dramatic cliffs. For those seeking a tranquil escape with breathtaking views, this beach is the perfect choice. You can soak up the sun or swim in the clear waters. You can also explore the rugged coastline. Myrtiotissa offers a harmonious blend of peace and excitement.

Location

Myrtiotissa Beach is nestled on Corfu’s western coast. It is about 17 km west of Corfu Town and the island’s airport. The beach faces west, providing unobstructed views of the Ionian Sea. The beach itself is quite remote. The drive from Corfu Town takes roughly 30 minutes.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The water at Myrtiotissa Beach stays shallow for a good distance. This makes it ideal for families and less experienced swimmers.
  • The clear waters are perfect for snorkelling. They reveal a vibrant underwater world with plenty of fish.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty. Because of this, it is important to stay cautious while swimming.

Amenities

Myrtiotissa Beach is one of the more remote beaches on the island. While there are sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, there isn’t much else. There are also free spaces where you can lay your towel. At the top of the cliff, before you go down to the beach, there is a Taverna. It offers food, drinks, and coffees. This is also where you will find the nearest toilet to the beach.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking: There is limited parking available here. It’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot.
  • Accessibility: The beach is accessible via a steep hill. This may not be manageable for those with mobility issues. Cars can and do drive down the steep incline. However, we would advise caution if you choose to do so.
  • Transport: The B16 bus route connects Corfu Town with Myrtiotissa. However, there is a long walk from the nearest bus stop. Renting a car is a better option for visiting this beach. Just be sure to use caution on the steep descent.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • Sandy Terrain: The beach is sandy. Because of this, no special footwear is needed.
  • Busy Summers: Myrtiotissa Beach can get very busy in July and August. We recommend visiting early for the best spots.
  • Strong Sunlight: There is limited natural shade. Sun protection (hats, umbrellas, sunscreen) is essential.
  • Clientele: This beach is mainly frequented by nudists. However, nudity is not compulsory.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Families, couples, and active travellers. It is for those who are not troubled by nudism.
  • Best time to go: May, June, or September for a quieter experience.
  • Crowds: It gets busy during peak season. Arriving early is beneficial.
  • Extra perks: It has gorgeous sunset views. The clear waters are also great for snorkelling.
