Paramonas Beach

Paramonas Beach

Overview

Paramonas is a wonderfully tranquil beach on the west coast, offering a peaceful escape from Corfu’s more crowded spots. It’s a long, quiet stretch of sand and fine pebbles, lapped by crystal-clear Ionian waters. The beach is known for its unspoiled, natural feel and the two excellent traditional tavernas perched at its edge, which are as much a reason to visit as the beach itself. It’s the perfect destination for a quiet swim followed by a delicious, leisurely meal with a sunset view.

Location

Paramonas is located on the central west coast, south of the more famous Agios Gordios beach. It is accessed via a winding road down from the inland village of Ano Pavliana. It’s approximately 25 km from Corfu Town, and the drive takes around 40 minutes. Its slightly hidden location helps preserve its serene atmosphere.

Water Depth & Safety

  • The water here is renowned for its clarity, making it great for swimming.
  • The seabed is a mix of sand and pebbles, and it shelves moderately, becoming deep enough for a swim relatively close to shore.
  • As a west coast beach, it can experience some waves on windy days, but is often calm.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty; it’s a natural, unorganised beach.

Amenities

Amenities are minimal and centred around the beach’s two fantastic tavernas. These establishments provide the only public facilities, including toilets for customers. They also offer a small number of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire on the beach directly in front of them. Otherwise, the beach is completely natural and unspoiled.

Getting There – Parking, Accessibility & Transport

  • Parking: Parking is limited near the end of the road by the beach and it can fill up quickly, so you may need to park carefully along the final stretch of the approach road.
  • Accessibility: Once parked, the beach is flat and easy to access. The drive down, however, is on a narrow and winding road that requires careful driving.
  • Transport: A car or scooter is essential to reach Paramonas, as there are no direct public transport routes.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting

  • A Quiet Escape: Come here for peace and relaxation, not for a party atmosphere or water sports.
  • Dine with a View: A visit isn’t complete without a meal at one of the tavernas. The seafood is particularly good.
  • Stunning Sunsets: As a west-facing beach, it is a prime location for watching the sun go down.
  • Bring Water Shoes: If you have sensitive feet, water shoes can be useful for the pebbly sections of the beach and seabed.

Final Verdict

  • Best for: Couples, foodies, and those seeking an authentic and peaceful beach experience away from the crowds.
  • Best time to go: Late afternoon for a swim, followed by an early dinner to catch the sunset from a taverna.
  • Crowds: Very low. It’s a true hidden gem that remains quiet even in high season.
  • Extra perks: A truly serene and authentic atmosphere, incredible sunsets, and some of the best traditional beachside dining on the west coast.
