How Will You Get Here?

Primary Ways: Getting to Afionas Village

Drive a Rental Car

The most practical way to reach the starting point. Drive to Afionas and park in a paid car park.

Use the Bus System

The A7 Green Bus stops in Agios Georgios, but requires a long uphill walk to reach Afionas.

Book a Private Transfer

For a stress-free trip, book a transfer for a direct drop-off in Afionas, right at the start of the trail.

Next Steps & Alternatives: Reaching the Beach

Hike from Afionas

The most rewarding way to arrive. Take the scenic (but steep) 30-45 minute hike down the rocky path.

Take a Water Taxi

For an easy arrival, take a water taxi or rent a pedalo from the nearby resort of Agios Georgios Pagon.

In-Depth Guide & Details

Location & Parking

The beach is located below the village of Afionas, and reaching the start of the trail is the first step.

  • Location: Porto Timoni is on the north-west coast, approximately 35km from Corfu Town. The drive to the starting point in Afionas takes about one hour.
  • Parking: You must park in the village of Afionas. There are several paid car parks available at the entrance to the village. Arrive early in peak season as spaces are very limited and fill up fast.

Beach Amenities

Porto Timoni is a completely wild and unorganized beach, which is a key part of its charm. There are no amenities on the beach itself.

  • No sunbeds or umbrellas are available for hire.
  • There are no tavernas, cafes, toilets, or showers.
  • You must bring all your own food, water, and equipment for the day.
Water Depth & Safety
  • Shallow Entry: The water near the shore is relatively shallow, but gets deep quickly.
  • Crystal-Clear Water: Absolutely perfect for snorkelling, especially around the rocks.
  • Calm & Sheltered: The main coves are protected, making the water incredibly calm.
  • No Lifeguards: This is a wild beach, so swim mindfully and be aware of your surroundings.
Important Things to Know

You’ll Love Porto Timoni If…

  • You are an adventurous traveller and hiker.
  • You are a photographer seeking spectacular natural scenery.
  • You want to swim and snorkel in a truly unspoiled location.

Key Considerations…

  • The hike is strenuous. You must wear trainers. The path is steep, rocky, and the return is all uphill.
  • Bring everything you need. Pack plenty of water, food, sunscreen, and a hat.
  • It’s a pebble beach, not sand. Consider bringing water shoes.
  • There is very little natural shade on the beach.

Reviews of Porto Timoni

Beautiful beach but a long walk!

November 14, 2025

Firstly, Porto Timoni is crazy beautiful, it is literally like something out of a dream and well worth the visit. With this being said, the hike down is long, especially in the heat, and when you get to the bottom there are no facilities to buy drinks etc (we did know this before going though so this isn’t the reason for the 4* instead of 5*).

The reason we knocked off one star on the rating is that the beach was SO BUSY. Now we did visit in August, so this is to be expected but it was difficult to find a place to sit.

All in all, we would definitely reccomend it, but probably just take the water taxi instead and be sure to get there early 🙂
