Official 2026 Traffic Restrictions

The Corfu Police Directorate has implemented a total management plan from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. Adherence to these measures is vital for the safety of the visceral thrumming processions.

Maundy Thursday (April 9, 2026)

Restricted Entry: 18:00 – 24:00

To facilitate the liturgical preparations, vehicular access is prohibited at the following points:

  • G. Theotoki Street: Closure of the traffic stream leading towards Stamatiou Desylla. Traffic will be diverted at San Rocco Square at the “Bomba” point.
  • V. Dousmani Street: Closure with traffic diverted at Agoniston Iroon Polytechneiou (front of the Old Fortress entrance).
  • Exemptions: Taxis and Blue Urban Buses are permitted to cross these points to maintain transport flow.

Good Friday (April 10, 2026)

The Day of Lamentation: Total Town Closure

From 10:00 AM:

  • Ioulia Andreadi Street: Becomes strictly one-way moving from the City toward Solari (exit to the Ethnikis Paleokastritsas Road).
  • Solari Entry: Incoming traffic from the Paleokastritsa Road to Town is blocked and diverted to Alexandrou Panagouli.

From 14:00 PM (Full Implementation):

  • Major Closures: Traffic is stopped at the intersections of St. Desylla/G. Theotoki, G. Theotoki/Alexandras Ave (Bomba), Douglas Column, and Rizospaston Voulefton.
  • Directional Mandates: Dimokratias Avenue (Windmill to Douglas Column) moves strictly one-way toward the city. Metropolitou Athanasiou is reversed (Douglas Column to Desylla). Ev. Napoleon is one-way (no descent from Platytera).
  • UNESCO Perimeter: From 18:00, vehicular access is prohibited on Dimokratias Ave, Ag. Politechniou, V. Georgiou A, Kapodistriou, Arseniou, E. Venizelou, L. Vlaikou, St. Desylla, Aspioti, and Akadimias.

Holy Saturday (April 11, 2026)

The Peak: 07:00 – 14:00 & 19:00 – 01:00

The rigorous measures of Good Friday apply in full development during these windows to facilitate the Botides (morning) and the Resurrection (midnight). Standing and parking is strictly prohibited from 09:00 Friday to 01:00 Sunday on Dimokratias Avenue and the Douglas Column perimeter.
