As your ship navigates past the imposing Old Fortress, you are arriving at one of the most spectacular ports in the Mediterranean. Corfu (Kerkyra) offers cruise passengers a perfect blend of history, culture, and beach relaxation. Whether you have 5 hours or 10, the island is surprisingly accessible. From the UNESCO World Heritage site of Corfu Old Town – located just a short distance from the cruise terminal – to the turquoise bays of Paleokastritsa, this cruise passenger guide will ensure you spend less time planning and more time exploring.

Demand is high, so pre-booking a transfer or tour is recommended. |
Wander the Venetian alleyways, visit St. Spyridon Church, and shop for kumquats. Easily accessible by foot or bus.
Maximise your time with a private tour to Paleokastritsa, Achilleion Palace, or a private boat trip.
Getting from the cruise terminal to the historic centre is straightforward. You have three main options:
The walk takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes (1.5km to the New Fortress/Old Port). Exit the terminal, turn left, and follow the coastline. There is a pavement the entire way. It is a safe walk with lovely views of the fortresses as you approach.
The No. 15 Blue Bus connects the Port directly to San Rocco Square (city centre) and the Ticket Office. The bus stop is located inside the port area, just to the left as you exit the main terminal building. Tickets can be bought from the machine or the bus driver (carry small change/coins).
Taxis are available immediately outside the terminal but you can also book your transfer in advance to avoid the crowds. The ride to town takes 5-10 minutes depending on traffic. Note that prices may be fixed for “Port to Town” trips.
Is it worth hiring a car for a day? Yes, if you want to escape the crowds and see the more of the island, including the west coast beaches or mountain villages.
However, do not rely on finding a car upon arrival in peak season (July/August). Several rental agencies have desks inside the Cruise Terminal arrivals hall, but pre-booking is essential. Driving in Corfu Town is traffic-heavy, but once you clear the town (heading North or West), the roads open up.
If your goal is a swim, you don’t need to travel far.
Located beneath the Old Fortress in Corfu Town. Not a sandy beach, but a paved bathing area with a ladder into crystal clear water and a cafe/bar with views of the fortress. Perfect for a quick dip after sightseeing.
A 30-40 minute walk or short bus ride (Blue Bus No. 2a) from town. A mix of sand and pebble with a stone pier, famous for its history as a royal bathing spot.
Avoid the taxi queues. Pre-book a driver to meet you at the gate and take you anywhere on the island.
The No. 15 gets you to town, while No. 2a goes to Kanoni. Cheap and reliable for short trips.
Several agencies operate inside the terminal. Ideal for DIY tours, but book in advance.
