A rare chance to visit the chapel on Mouse Island! On August 6, celebrate the Transfiguration on Corfu’s most iconic landmark with a traditional boat crossing and ceremony.
The Pontikonisi Festival on August 6th is one of the most unique experiences in Corfu. While Mouse Island is the island’s most photographed landmark, the small 13th-century chapel of the Transfiguration of the Saviour is only open to the public for its namesake feast day.
Visitors can take small boats from the Kanoni jetty for a short, scenic crossing. This is a deeply traditional event where religious devotion meets the natural beauty of the Ionian. After the morning liturgy, the celebration continues back on the mainland in Kanoni with music and stalls. At Discover Corfu, we recommend this as a “must-do” for photography enthusiasts and those seeking a rare glimpse into the island’s spiritual heritage.
