The Cape Drastis Coastal Path is more of a scenic stroll than a challenging hike, leading to one of Corfu’s most visually stunning natural landmarks. It follows a wide, relatively flat dirt track along the clifftops of the island’s northwestern tip.
This accessible path guides visitors to a famous viewpoint overlooking the majestic white cliffs of Cape Drastis. Here, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of fantastical, finger-like rock formations and secluded coves carved by the relentless sea. It’s a prime spot for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking an easy way to experience Corfu’s wild, untamed beauty.
The path itself is a short, easy walk on a wide dirt track, leading directly to the main viewpoint. The map below shows the recommended parking area on the main paved road and the subsequent short walk to Cape Drastis. From the parking spot, the walk is approximately 10-15 minutes each way, making it a very accessible natural attraction. To note, Google maps may not be completely accurate and it is always worth seeking advice before any hike from local tourist information centres or well known hiking websites/apps.
The journey to Cape Drastis begins where the paved road ends, typically near the village of Peroulades. Here, you’ll encounter a rough, unpaved dirt track. It is highly recommended to park your car on the main paved road. Driving a standard hire car down the rough track is risky and may invalidate your insurance due to potential damage from potholes and uneven surfaces. From this point, the walk to the viewpoint is straightforward and easy.
The “path” itself is the wide dirt track that continues along the clifftops. It’s an easy walk with only minimal climbs or descents, making it suitable for all fitness levels – it is still worth noting that those with mobility issues may not be able to walk this path. As you stroll, you’ll be exposed to the elements, so sun protection is advisable. The scenery is wild and undeveloped, with sparse vegetation offering unobstructed views of the sea and the dramatic coastline as you approach the cape.
The path culminates at a natural clifftop platform, which offers the iconic and breathtaking panorama down onto the white, layered cliffs and turquoise coves of Cape Drastis. This is the main attraction, perfect for photography, especially during sunset. You can admire the unique sedimentary rock formations and, on a clear day, even spot the distant Diapontia Islands (Erikoussa, Othoni, and Mathraki) on the horizon. Be extremely cautious as the cliffs are unfenced and can be dangerous; always stay well back from the edge.
