In-Depth Guide & Details

What is the Kerasia to Agni Coastal Walk?

Often lovingly referred to as the ‘Durrell Trail’ due to its proximity to the Durrell family’s historic White House, this walk is a picturesque coastal path connecting the charming bays of Kalami, Agni, and Kerasia on Corfu’s beautiful north-east coast.

It’s a gentle, approximately 2.5km (1.5 mile) one-way route, celebrated for its stunning Ionian Sea views, tranquil coves, and excellent dining opportunities. Perfect for a relaxed stroll rather than a challenging hike, it offers a glimpse into the island’s more exclusive and serene side.

The Route at a Glance & Map

The map below shows the rough area. The actual route isn’t available on Google Maps so as always it is worth seeking advice before any hike from local tourist information centres or well known hiking websites/apps. The walk itself is linear and can be done in either direction, and at a relaxed pace, it takes about 30-45 minutes one-way, making it an ideal activity for a morning or afternoon, perhaps culminating in lunch at one of the superb waterfront tavernas.

Detailed Breakdown of the Walk

Starting Point: Kerasia Beach – Tranquil Beauty

  • Route Section: Northern end of the walk
  • Terrain: Gentle coastal path, small road sections
  • Highlights: Secluded white-pebble beach, upmarket taverna, clear waters.

To note – the walk can start at either end. Starting at the tranquil and beautiful Kerasia Beach, this stunning white-pebble bay boasts incredibly clear, calm waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It typically has a more serene and exclusive atmosphere than Kalami, often frequented by those staying in the luxurious villas dotted around the hills. There’s an excellent, upmarket taverna directly on the beachfront, making it a wonderful place to relax, have a meal, and start the day properly. Once you are full and well rested, its time to hit the coastal path south which offer lovely views back across Kalami Bay.

Mid Point: Kalami Bay & The White House

  • Route Section: Central part of the walk
  • Terrain: Paved track, small road sections
  • Highlights: Lawrence Durrell’s White House, lively Kalami bay.

The continues to the picturesque horseshoe bay of Kalami. Here, you’ll find the famous White House, the former home of Lawrence Durrell, now a popular taverna and guesthouse – grab a coffee or simply just admire the view. Stroll along the waterfront, potentially take a dip in the turquoise waters, and take in the vibrant atmosphere of Kalami before continuing to head south.

Final Destination: Agni Bay – The Foodie Haven

  • Route Section: Southern end of the walk
  • Terrain: Mostly gravel/dirt track with some paved sections
  • Highlights: Three renowned waterfront tavernas, clear waters for swimming.

As you continue South, you’ll arrive at Agni Bay. This secluded cove is famous for its cluster of three exceptional waterfront tavernas, which draw diners from across the island, often arriving by boat taxi. It’s an ideal spot to pause for a coffee, a refreshing drink, or a full-blown traditional Corfiot lunch. The crystal-clear waters here are also incredibly inviting for a quick swim. The choice is then yours, back on your feet to head back North, or maybe even take a water taxi!
