Perched high on a headland, Afionas is a picture-perfect traditional village, renowned for offering one of the most spectacular sunsets on the island. This enchanting village is a labyrinth of narrow, stone-paved alleyways and classic Corfiot houses. It’s a destination for romantics, hikers, and photographers, offering breathtaking views over the Ionian Sea and serving as the starting point for the legendary hike to Porto Timoni. Afionas is an experience – a journey back to a more authentic, incredibly beautiful Corfu.

Afionas is in the northwest, overlooking Agios Georgios Pagon beach, 35 km from Corfu Town. The drive takes around 50 minutes.
The hike is challenging. It’s a steep, rocky, and uneven path that takes about 30 minutes to descend and longer to climb back up, especially in the heat. Sturdy trainers or hiking shoes are essential – do not attempt it in flip-flops.
Absolutely! The village is incredibly charming, and the views from the sunset tavernas are worth the visit alone. You can enjoy the atmosphere and scenery without undertaking the difficult hike.
In high season, you should aim to arrive in Afionas at least 1-2 hours before sunset to find parking and secure a spot at a viewpoint or a table at a taverna. It gets extremely congested.
